Filthy Windows...beautiful weekend :)

Laundry Room Drywall...taking votes
on a fun paint color for this room!
Since our last post, we have been working hard to get the house ready to be painted.  The whole house has been primed and sanded.  On Saturday, Jake and Ben painted all of the ceilings in the house.  While they painted, Kendra worked to get the windows cleaned.  After years of the house being empty as well as all of the construction dust and the blasting to remove the mold....this was a big project.  The ceiling is looking great, the windows still could use another washing!  On Monday the guys worked to lay out where the driveway, walkway, and turn around will be poured...the design looks really cool!  This week we look forward to getting our paint colors on the wall and we also look forward to seeing all of the beautiful work that Doug has been doing on the kitchen cabinets!  Each day the house is feeling more like our home & we can't wait to move in!

All work and no play would make these homeowners grumpy :)  We were happy to be able to take some time away to have a little fun with our friends!  Saturday night we relaxed with a fire and some fishing by the river, and Sunday we enjoyed celebrating Jeff's birthday at Silver Lake!

God's Beautiful Creation!

This picture was taken on Kendra's drive to work on Wednesday morning.  What a beautiful glimpse of God's creation!

Progress on the house is going steadily.  Today the laundry room drywall will be completed and Ben and Doug are hoping to start painting the ceiling of the main floor.  Last night, Jake and Ben worked to attach the house to the garage with a deck.  The deck will eventually be turned into a mud room.  While they worked, Kendra got the basement cleared so that drywall can take place....check out our new shopvac, it made the job a breeze!!

Our new helper, Kendra is very excited about this :)

Hard at Work

Blown in insulating in the future man cave in the basement
more insulation in the laundry room
more insulation in the man cave space!
The guys have been hard at work this week.  The basement insulation was blown in and then batted for better insulation, as well as to meet fire code as we will not be putting up drywall in the basement right away. The garage is also looking great.  The plywood is all up, even our overhang for our wood for the wood burning stove.  This week we will begin to paint the main floor of the house!

2 Year Anniversary!

Last night we were able to take the night off to celebrate our 2 year anniversary.  We can not believe how quickly 2 years has gone by.  We can't wait to see what this next year will bring.  We look forward to moving into our new home and Kendra looks forward to starting a full time teaching job this fall!

Thank you to Reds on the River for an amazing anniversary night out!

Since our last blog post, a lot of work has been done both inside and out on the house.  The drywall is finished and looks amazing.  I still feel like I am walking into the wrong house when I go through the doors, it is amazing how different the house looks!  The garage is also looking great!

Let the mudding begin!  All of the drywall has been hung and the house looks so different.  We are enjoying envisioning what the set up will look like once the house is complete.  Last night the garage floor was poured and is looking great!  Next up is hanging garage walls and choosing paint colors!

Whose house is this?!...it has a ceiling and walls! Drywall started Monday and a lot of work has already taken place. All of the ceiling is completed and walls are started! The garage has also made quite the transformation. On the 4th of July some of our amazing friends and family got up bright and early to come by and help us set the trusses. We worked through the heat to get all of them set! Thank you so much to all of you who came to help! While the drywall crew works, we will continue to work on the garage and to pick out interior colors.  We had a sand delivery for the garage floor and our neighbor John came over on his tractor to help us level the sand out. Kendra and her mom, Betsy spent a day looking at tile options for the bathrooms and kitchen, wow what a selection to choose from!  The chimney is also finished and the outside of the house looks so much different.

Thank you neighbor John!  We are so blessed to have great neighbors who are excited to help and get the house looking like a home :)

We Passed!

Time is flying by on this house project!  On Friday we had an electrical inspection and today we had a building inspection.  Both inspections passed and we are so thankful for that!  In the midst of all of the work that needs to be done, we were also thankful to be able to take some time away to spend with friends and family.  This past weekend Ben and I were able to get away and spend a great weekend on the beautiful Lake Leelanau!  Tomorrow we plan to take advantage of the holiday off from work and get the garage going.  If anyone would like to join our 6am truss party give us a call!!...we are trying to beat the heat with an early start! Other little bits of progress include getting our material for the kitchen counter tops and beginning to sort through the hundreds of choices in order to get an idea of paint colors.
