HUD Inspection

Progress on the house is moving along quite quickly.  Yesterday we had our first inspection by our HUD inspector, Tim.  Everything went well and this means that by next week we will be moving onto insulation!  Tomorrow we have inspections scheduled for our electrical and heating and cooling.  These are inspections that have to be done in addition to our HUD inspector in order to meet the regulations of all of the permits we have out through the township.  In order to have these inspections done tomorrow, it looks like our work crew will have a long day ahead of them.  The chimney for the wood stove needs to be put in, as well as getting all of the electrical work in the basement finished.

Electrical boxes and wiring

If you look closely, you can see Ben up in the attic.  Ben braved the heat of the attic to run wire.

A special thank you to Mom VT for allowing all of Ben's deer heads to "live" at her house while we transition into our new home!!

Moving Forward

A lot of progress has taken place since our last post.  We wrapped up the basement, it is completely roughed in and is looking great!  While the basement was getting finished, work started on prepping out the electrical work.  Matt K and Julie came over to help get the electrical boxes in place, thank you both for all of your help!  Having the basement finished allowed us to move on to the garage.  On Saturday, Ben, Doug, Matt K, and Yake worked through the intense heat to start putting the structure up for the garage.  On Monday Ben, Doug, and Kendra worked to get the can lights ready to have wiring run to them.  We hope to have electric done by the weekend and get our first inspection with Tim the HUD inspector scheduled!

Progress

Over the weekend we made a lot of progress.  While Kendra was at a bridal shower, lots of work was getting done.  The dozer came and moved some dirt to get ready for the garage.  The stumps in the backyard were also moved and our backyard is beginning to look like a yard again!  The basement framework is also making great progress.

Last Day of Preschool

Today was Kendra's last day with her preschoolers in Sparta.  Yesterday, we celebrated our preschoolers with a fun field day and a little graduation celebration.  As a symbol of their graduation, each student (and teacher!) was able to put their hand-print on the wall.   It has been a great first year of teaching!  What a blessing all those who I work with have been & not to mention all of the lessons that I have learned from the amazing students in my class....I have had a terrific experience!

The progress on the house is really starting to take off!  Kendra visited today and was able to meet the plumbing crew.  They have been doing a great job and have the tub and 1 toilet in already.  Tonight Ben and Doug are at the house working to frame in the basement.  Plans are also in the works to get the garage started this weekend.

We have a back yard!

After a Saturday full of pulling out bushes, Ben and I headed to the house today to kill some more weeds and cut down more of our overgrown yard.  We still have a long way to go before the yard looks the way we would like...but we are making some great progress!  A special thank you to Ben's brother Jake for mowing the lawn for us!

Ben and Doug also worked on our half wall along the stairwell.  Today the heating and cooling guys started and got the holes cut for the duct work to begin.  It is all looking good!

Day One

Back Yard After

Today was our first full day of work on the house.  Ben had the task of spraying the entire interior of the house with a pigmented shellac primer that protects from odor, stain, and mold.  While Ben sprayed, Kendra worked on the overgrown landscaping.  The outside of the house is looking much better...but we still have a long way to go.  Our wonderful contractor- father, Doug came over to help map out the plan for the kitchen and bathrooms.  We are also very thankful for our friend Yake who helped Kendra pull out all of the bushes and bring them to be dumped.  We ended our day today with a visit from Kendra's Aunt Carol and Uncle Phil who are in town from Texas, we can't wait for them to be back in July to see the progress we have made!
